That’s right! Medical personnel – from doctors to
nurses and support staff must be conserved during times of pandemics.
Research is evolving and the following suggestions are research matter.
However, some suggestions could be implemented during extreme situations like
the Covid-19 outbreak as the ’curve’ offers prep time in many countries.
Creation of a para-medical
contingent
Just in the same way as military enlistments, initiate a medical support contingent through volunteers who will undergo training in primary medi-care but will be free to do as they please during times of non-event, ready to be deployed, as during situations breaking out in Italy or Spain.
Incentives like special care for families and post-event
considerations in granting employment etc could lure volunteers. This
kind of ‘extra’ level contingency may be required especially when numbers
become exponential and staff numbers get depleted due to illness.
Management of care-givers
In an evolving situation and especially when there is global data setting a pattern, plan for dynamic stages of a pandemic, ensuring personnel is not exhausted during early stages by way of measured responses.
Care packages for
personnel
The needs of personnel should be evaluated with the continuous supply of essential goods reaching medical personnel while also ensuring better living and resting facilities during a prolonged crisis. An important aspect of their well-being is that their families being well taken care of.
Medi-care Tool Box
Progressive preparation is the key. Facilitate a
medi-care box for every medical personnel including ample masks, basic supplies
etc which may come in handy especially when ‘any medi-care giver’ may be the
only option available to communities.
